A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is a nonstop Vaudevillian laughfest in which Pseudolus, a crafty Roman slave, contrives to win the hand of a beautiful young courtesan for his young master, in exchange for his freedom. The plot twists and turns with hilarity and mistaken identity on its way to a happy ending.

Audition Information

It’s the 2026 re-make of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. You do not want to miss this ride! Come out for a post-modern  vaudevillian romp, full of laughs and memorable Sondheim tunes.
Forum is the triumphant story of Pseudolus, a Roman slave, who earns his freedom through ingenuity, meanwhile causing mischief, preventing disaster, and achieving a happy ending for all the characters. He promises Comedy Tonight!, and he delivers.

AUDITION DATES
Auditions will be held November 28-30, 2025
● Friday November 28 
○ 6 pm – 10 pm
● Saturday November 29
○ 10 am – 5 pm
● Sunday November 30
○ 2 pm – 6 pm

CALLBACKS
● Thursday December 4: 
○ 6 pm – 9pm

PERFORMANCES IN SPRING 2026:
You will be committing to a rehearsal schedule from Jan-April 2026 on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Performances are at the River Run Centre in Guelph April 30-May 3, 2026.

AGES NEEDED:
Adult ages:
To audition you must be at least 16 years old (as of January 1st , 2026). Character age range is 20- 95. A list of characters, role size and vocal ranges is listed at the end of this notice.

AUDITION PROCESS:
Audition spots will be filled on a first come first served basis.
Request your time online by filling out the form. The form will be open online until November 27, 2025. Audition spots fill quickly.
Actors are required to bring a non-returnable photo to the audition. You should arrive fifteen minutes early to register and fill out an Audition Form. Please be prepared to stay approximately one hour.

AUDITION LOCATION:
Auditions will be held at Lakeside Church (7654 Conservation Rd Guelph)
Callbacks will be held at Lakeside Church (7654 Conservation Rd Guelph) on December 4.

VOCAL AUDITION
For auditions, prepare a musical theatre song that demonstrates your vocal range and ideally demonstrates your sense of humour. Bring a head shot, musical accompaniment, and be prepared for a brief movement exercise.
We will have the ability to play recorded accompaniment through a CD player, MP3 player, Bluetooth speaker, iPhone or iPod. There are plenty of instrumental tracks available on Youtube and iTunes. There will be a keyboard available, but no accompanist.

VIDEO AUDITION OPTION
If you are unable to be physically present for any of the audition dates, we will accept an audition submitted through video. To submit a video audition, select “video audition” in the timeslot drop down menu.
Audition forms will then be sent to you for you to complete.
The video and forms are to be submitted no later than Wednesday November 27 @6pm.
On video you should introduce yourself, sing a song and demonstrate movement if possible.

CALLBACKS
Callbacks are by invitation. They will be held on Thursday December 4 from 6-10pm. Materials
will be sent to those auditioners who are called back. If you do not receive a callback, it does
not mean you are not cast; callbacks are often for specific roles, pairings, etc.

REHEARSALS & OTHER COMMITMENTS YOU MAKE
PERFORMANCES
There will be 5 performances starting at 7:30pm on April 30th , May 1st and 2nd 2026 and 1:30pm on May 2nd and 3rd , 2026.
All performances will take place at the River Run Centre. All cast must be available for all performances and the week preceding performances during the evenings and weekends.

REHEARSAL ATTENDANCE
Rehearsals begin Thursday January 8, 2026.
Rehearsals will be held on Sundays from 1-5 pm and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-10 pm.
In mid-March, we will add Sunday evenings from 6:30-9 pm.
Please advise us now regarding any conflicts you may have with the rehearsal schedule. (eg. any regular times you cannot attend and/or any plans to be away/travel in certain weeks).

While we understand that people may have prior commitments and there are unforeseen circumstances surrounding one’s availability, it is imperative that cast members attend all rehearsals that they are called for. You will be required to fill out a form stating your availability.
This will be taken into consideration when making casting decisions.

EXPENSES
You don’t need to be a member to audition, but membership of RCMPI is required to take part in the show. Individual membership is currently $25 per year ($10 for age 15 and under).
There will also be a participation fee of $50 for cast members of this production. The participation fee is set by the Board of RCMPI and is used towards show and cast related
expenses.

VOLUNTEERING
RCMPI is a community volunteer organization. Cast members are expected to volunteer at least 5 hours outside of rehearsals to assist with painting, set building, sewing, publicity, etc. to make the show a successful and rewarding experience for everyone. Family and friends can also help with volunteer hours. More details about volunteer opportunities will be made available once rehearsals begin.

Senex: a “respectable” Roman citizen, 40’s to 60’s Tenor/Baritone. Duet, quartet, Chorus

Domina: misunderstood wife of Senex, 40’s to 60’s Mezzo. Solo, Chorus
