Once Upon A Mattress Jr.

February 25-29, 2027

Many moons ago in a far-off place, Queen Aggravain decreed no couples could marry until her son, Prince Dauntless, found a bride. Princesses came from far and wide to win the hand of the prince, but none could pass the impossible tests given to them by the Queen. That is, until the “shy” swamp princess, Winnifred the Woebegone, showed up. Would she be able to pass the Sensitivity Test, marry her prince and help Lady Larken and Sir Harry to the altar? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the classic tale The Princess and the Pea provides some side-splitting shenanigans. For after all, a princess is a delicate thing.

AUDITION INFORMATION

Auditions are taking place at Lakeside Church (7654 Conservation Rd, Guelph) on Oct. 23rd, 24th and 25th.  We welcome those aged 8-15 (as of September 1st, 2025).

What to prepare for the audition:

  • A song of your choice, approximately 1 min in length. We suggest a song from the musical theatre repertoire that shows off your singing ability, but please pick anything you feel comfortable singing.
  • A  joke, monologue or a page from your favourite book in your best British accent. It does not have to be memorized –  we are looking for your ability to emote or show expression. Accents are not expected to be perfect, but we want to see an eagerness to try!

What to bring to the audition:

  • Headshot (does not need to be professional)
  • Backtrack for your song is preferred (we will have the ability to play from an android or iPhone)
  • Willingness to participate in a very short movement/dance audition.
  • Your enthusiasm!

There will be an invitation-only callback on Wednesday November 5th, 2025 for lead and featured roles as well as a more in-depth dance portion. You may be called to one, both or none of these. If you are not called back, it does not mean you are not cast in the show, it just means we do not need to see you for callbacks.
