School of Rock The Musical

November 19-23, 2025

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s award-winning smash hit musical premiered on Broadway in 2015, and has since been seen on stages around the globe! Based on the hilarious hit movie, this musical follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band – sensationally performed live by the production’s young actors every night with roof-raising energy!

Based on the Paramount movie by Mike White
Book by Julian Fellowes

VOCAL AUDITION
Please prepare a rock/pop-style musical theatre song that highlights your vocal ability. Do not sing a capella — your audition should reflect how you’ll perform on stage, with accompaniment.
We can play recorded backing tracks from a CD, MP3 player, phone, or Bluetooth enabled device. Instrumental tracks are widely available on YouTube and Apple Music.
A keyboard will be available for your use, but no accompanist will be provided.

*KIDS are exempt from the style requirement—we want them to sing whatever song best showcases their voice! However, if they are struggling to choose, here are some options we’d love to hear, which leverage rock/punk/soul style and musicality. Please  choose a 30-60 second cut:
I Like It from A Bronx Tale (2016)
Electricity from Billy Elliot (2008)
Proud Corazón from Coco (2017)
Plain Plate of Noodles from John Mulaney and the Sack Lunch Bunch (2019)
In The Empire (Candace’s part) from Phineas and Ferb (2014)
Middle of a Moment from James and the Giant Peach (2010)
Sing Your Own Song from Dear Edwina (2008)
The Girl I Mean to Be from The Secret Garden (1991)
Boy Falls from The Sky from Spiderman: Turn off the Dark (2011)
Almost There from The Princess and the Frog (2009)
Pancake Robot by Parry Gripp
Rockin Robin by Bobby Day
Boys Don’t Cry by The Cure
Afraid of the Dark by TALK
Change Your Mind by The All American Rejects
I Don’t Wanna Go to School by The Donnas
One Way or Another by Blondie

INSTRUMENTAL AUDITIONS

Children
We will be auditioning children who play drums, electric bass, electric guitar, and keyboard. Please indicate on your audition sign-up if you are interested in one of these roles. We will provide music for you to learn before arriving at your audition.
Drummers may be required to show some pattern and improvisation work.
There will be a drum set and a keyboard for you to use at the audition space.

We will also have an electric guitar and bass guitar with an amp, but if you would prefer to bring your own that is ok too.
These roles are also singing roles, so we do require them to prepare a song of their choice, as per the guidelines above, although some have less featured singing so if that is not your strength do not stress!

Dewey
If you are interested in auditioning for the role of Dewey, we ask that you accompany yourself on guitar for your audition, as this role requires you to be able to play guitar while singing. We will also be providing you with a short piece to learn and come prepared to play. Please indicate if you are interested in auditioning for Dewey. We will provide music for you to learn before arriving at your audition.

DANCE AUDITION
A short movement piece will be taught in each audition slot and will be performed as a group at the end of each audition slot.

VIDEO AUDITION OPTION
If you are unable to be physically present for any of the audition dates, we will accept an audition submitted through video. To submit a video audition, select “video audition” in the timeslot drop down menu.
Audition forms will then be sent to you for you to complete.
The video and forms are to be submitted no later than Wednesday, June 18, 2025 @6pm.
On video you should introduce yourself, sing a song and demonstrate movement if possible.

CALLBACKS
Callbacks are by invitation. They will be held on Thursday, June 26 from 6-10pm. Materials will be sent to those auditioners who are called back. If you do not receive a callback, it does not mean you are not cast; callbacks are often for specific roles, pairings, etc.

Please advise us now regarding any conflicts you may have with the rehearsal schedule. (e.g. any regular times you cannot attend and/or any plans to be away/travel in certain weeks). While we understand that people may have prior commitments and there are unforeseen circumstances surrounding one’s availability, it is imperative that cast members attend all rehearsals that they are called for. You will be required to fill out a form stating your availability.
This will be taken into consideration when making casting decisions. Not all cast will be called to every rehearsal.
