Auditions will be held May 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th, 2019. You may request your preferred time slot. Audition spots will be filled on a first-come-first-serve basis.

As a community theatre group we enjoy the participation of all ages; however, to audition you must be at least 14 years old (as of September 1st, 2019).


There will be separate time slots specifically for dancers. The focus of this type of audition will be on dance.
If you would like to participate in both a dance audition and a singing/acting audition, please submit two audition requests.


If you are unable to be physically present at any of the audition dates we will accept an audition submitted through video. To submit a video audition select "video audition" in the time slot drop down menu. Audition forms will then be sent to you for you to complete. The video and forms are to be submitted no later than Wednesday, May 8th.


Callbacks are by invitation. They will be held on Thursday, May 16th.


Auditions will be held at Lakeside Church, 7654 Conservation Rd, Guelph, ON N1H 6J1. Map.


Actors are required to bring a non-returnable photo. Please arrive fifteen minutes early to fill out an Audition Form

Please be prepared to stay approximately one hour. All parts require some level of movement. Please dress comfortably as there will be a movement component to the audition.

Please prepare a 1 minute section of an accompanied song of your choice that reflects your voice type and highlights your strengths and abilities. Remember, it is your audition and you want to showcase yourself!

Please do not use a song from Mamma Mia! or any song from the ABBA catalogue.

We will have an accompanist (piano) available on:
  • Thursday May 9 (7-9pm)
  • Friday May 10 (8-10pm)
  • Saturday May 11 (3-6pm)
  • Sunday May 12 (1-4:30pm)
Please choose one of these audition slots if you wish to bring sheet music with you.
For all other slots a piano will be available, however you must supply your own accompanist.
We will also have the ability to play recorded accompaniment through a CD player, MP3 player, or smartphone.
There are plenty of instrumental tracks available on Youtube, iTunes, and Spotify.


Dancers are required to bring a non-returnable photo. Please arrive fifteen minutes early to fill out an Audition Form, and be prepared to stay approximately one hour.

The audition will consist of a brief group warm-up followed by learning a musical theatre/jazz routine. Classical ballet training and pointe is an asset but is not required.

Please dress appropriately and bring water.


Rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:45pm-10:00pm, Sundays 1:30pm-5:00pm, and, starting in October Sunday evenings 6:30pm-9:30pm.

Rehearsals start on Sunday, September 8th, and all rehearsals will be at Lakeside Church, 7654 Conservation Rd, Guelph.

Technical rehearsals at the theatre run November 15-19th and are mandatory for all cast.


While we understand that people have prior commitments and there are unforeseen circumstances surrounding one's availability, it is imperative that cast members attend all rehearsals that they are called for.

Due to the time commitment expected of the cast of Mamma Mia!, we are unable to cast those who plan to participate in other theatre projects that will conflict with rehearsal and/or performance dates. Please contact us if you are unsure if this applies to you.

Please bring your calendar to your audition as you will be required to fill out a form stating your availability. This will be taken into consideration when making casting decisions.



There will be 6 performances: 7:30pm on November 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, and 1:30pm on November 23rd and 24th, 2019.

All performances will take place at the River Run Centre. All cast must be available for all performances and technical rehearsals.


You don't need to be a member to audition, but membership of RCMPI is required to take part in the show. Individual membership is currently $25.00 per year, $10 for youth - ages of 15 and under.

There will be a participation fee of $50.00 for cast members of this production. The participation fee is set by the Board of RCMPI and is used towards show and cast-related expenses.


RCMPI is a community, volunteer organization. Cast members are expected to volunteer at least 5 hours outside of rehearsals to assist with painting, set building, sewing, publicity, etc. to make the show a successful and rewarding experience for everyone.

Mamma Mia! - Character Breakdown

Please note that all descriptions are generalizations based on previous performances for reference only, and are not prerequisites. The Directorial Team may cast the show in any way that suits their overall vision.

Donna Sheridan
Female (40-50), Vocal Range: E3 - A5 (mezzo soprano). Enthralling and free-spirited. A former lead singer in a group called “Donna and the Dynamos” who now owns and runs a hotel/cafe on a Greek island. A strong feminist who also has a zany and vulnerable side.
Sophie Sheridan
Female (18-25), Vocal Range: F#3 - E5 (mezzo soprano). A very special young woman who is determined to find the romance and happiness she feels eluded her mother. Has an adventurous spirit even though she pursues a conventional marriage. Must be able to move extremely well. Principal role.
Female (40-50), Vocal Range: E3 - E5 (mezzo soprano). A former singer in the “Dynamos.” Rich, sophisticated, acerbic, funny, and witty. Actress who sings. Supporting role.
Female (40-50), Vocal Range: E3 - D5 (alto). A former singer in the “Dynamos” who now writes for and runs a feminist press. She’s confident, strong, and funny on the outside but shy underneath. Kooky and fun, good comic actress, a bit of a clown. Actress who sings. Supporting role.
Sam Carmichael
Male (40-50) Vocal Range: D3 - Ab4 (tenor). May be Sophie’s father. Left Donna 20 years ago because he was engaged to another woman. Charming, successful architect. Should be able to move well. Supporting role.
Bill Austin
Male (40-50) Vocal Range: Bb2 - F#4 (baritone). May be Sophie’s father. A travel writer with no possessions or strings. Good-natured, always ready for adventure. Funny, comedic actor. Should be able to move well. Supporting role.
Harry Bright
Male (40-50) Vocal Range: C#3 - F#4 (baritone). May be Sophie’s father. British financier, wealthy, buttoned-up, and conservative but trying to reconnect with his freer, youthful self. Must do a very convincing English accent. Should be able to move well. Supporting role.
Male (20-30) Vocal Range: Eb3 - D4 (tenor). Sophie’s fiancé. Athletic, charismatic – was a successful businessman. Left to help Donna with her taverna and marry Sophie. Supporting role.
Female (20-25) Vocal Range: G3 - Db5 (mezzo soprano). Sophie’s friend who arrives to be a bridesmaid. Very energetic and kooky. Must be able to dance. Featured ensemble role.
Female (20-25) Vocal Range: G3 - D5 (mezzo soprano). Sophie’s friend. Impulsive and fun. Should contrast to Lisa and Sophie. Must be able to dance. Featured ensemble role.
Male (age 20-25) Vocal Range: A3 - F4 (tenor). Sky’s friend. Helps run the hotel. Charming, loves women, always flirting. Must be a strong dancer, acrobatic skills a plus. Featured ensemble role.
Male (age 20-25). Another friend of Sky and hotel worker. Laid-back, easygoing. Must be able to dance. Featured ensemble role.
Age: 14+. Consists of the Islanders, who work at Donna's, and Wedding-Guests. Dynamic dancers with vocal range and comedic chops.
